Kerrisdale Townhouse: Opening Up Walls

A standout renovation

The nuisance with 1990s and earlier built homes is that they compartmentalize spaces, often having separations between kitchens, dining, and living rooms.

However, this cycle can be broken, as emphasized by the transformation that took place in this Kerrisdale townhouse, as reimagined by Andrea Jae Studio.

When the clients expressed their needs and wants in terms of functionality and aesthetics, Andrea went to work and put together a palette that can only be described as one of a kind! She kept the colour tones within the same family, further blending in natural wood elements such as the flooring and storage room adjacent to the kitchen to create a flawless transition.

Her attention then went to the stairs leading to the upper floors, with a custom-designed runner and beautiful handrails to complement this space. Anchored by stair lighting and light fixtures above, this transformation took the townhouse to a whole new level.

This remarkable transformation was featured in Western Living Magazine, along with earning a Finalist spot in the Georgie Awards 2025 for Best Townhouse Renovation; we are extremely pleased by this project’s outcome, as are the homeowners.

Client’s Thoughts

“Before starting our first renovation all I heard was horror stories from others. So we were very very nervous starting the process of removing a wall and completely re-designing the main floor of our 3 story, 25 year old, townhouse. BUT once we met Babak and the process started our fears vanished and we love our new space…”
